To keep Wyoming safe, the Cowboy State has around 28 correctional facilities meant to rehabilitate criminals and keep the dangerous ones away from society. There are five state correctional facilities run by the Wyoming Department of Corrections. Of those five, two house female inmates - one is strictly for female inmates, while the other is co-ed.

The state is also home to 23 county jails and 12 juvenile detention centers owned or mostly managed by the respective county Sheriff's Offices. There are currently no federal prisons in the state. It is important to note that the minimum search criteria for names is the first two letters of the inmate's last name. Note that if you input both a WDOC inmate number and a last name, the number will be used in the search.

What Information is Contained in a Wyoming Inmate Record?

When you search using the WDOC Offender Locator tool, you get the name (first and last name), gender, age, and status of the inmate. Their status shows whether they are inmates, on probation, or on parole. The status of 'inmate' means that the individual is serving time in prison, and "probation" means that while they were convicted of a crime, they were allowed to remain outside the prison walls during their initial sentencing and are therefore serving a suspended sentence. "Parole" means that the individual has been allowed out of prison earlier than expected on the agreement that they meet certain conditions.

Clicking on the name reveals more details about that inmate. In addition to the first and last names, a middle name is also provided. The inmate record also provides a physical description of the inmate including their age, ethnicity, gender, hair color, eye color, height, and weight. Note that ethnicity may be given as "white", "Caucasian", "Asian/Pacific Islander", "Hispanic", "Latino", "African American" or "other".

Information such as the inmate's projected discharge date, parole eligibility date, and correctional facility/office of supervision (including their address and contact number) is also given. Users can also learn about the inmate's current sentences - their current offense, offense count, sentence date, sentence length, the county where they were sentenced, and whether or not they are serving a consecutive sentence.

In Wyoming, county inmate records are kept separately from state records. The respective county Sheriff's Office, which is responsible for managing the day-to-day at its county jail also maintains its inmates and jail records.
